INTRODUCTION

ENG 454: Multilingualism is known as a three-credit device course. This course introduces crucial theoretical and practical problems in the research of multi-lingual societies and individuals, checking out these with the levels of the country, the region, as well as the group. Multilingualism examines subject areas like: 'languages' and civilizations; core concepts and core values; terminology attitudes; retention and pluralism; and concerns surrounding community languages. This system is designed to throw more mild on the notion of multilingualism because an individual or perhaps social sensation, particularly within a society with a multiplicity of languages (such as Nigeria) at several stages of development. The ethnolinguistic and sociopolitical effects of multilingualism have been explained in equally educational and societal options. ENG 454 takes into mind, the academic and professional requirements of students of language, be it as terminology planners or as educators and analysts implementing the national language planning policy.

Chinese situation in sub-Saharan Africa is generally characterized by a kind of dense multi-lingual phenomenon composed of a variety of languages that include indigenous and exogenous languages. Hence, the historical and other antecedents of multilingualism are aimed as well as the many types and amounts. This calls for systematic and deliberate efforts at collating these languages after many surveys, which will culminate in planning how to allocate functions to these different languages. These initiatives have to be documented and backed with government pronouncements or paperwork that have all their bases in the nation's ideologies.
