Shakespeare's Paradoxical Characteristics of Your life
William Shakespeare's tragedy of two star-crossed lovers whose deaths in the end reconcile their very own feuding people, entails a number of conflicting figurative language. One of the most significant and reoccurring paradoxes in the works of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, is his contradicting lumination verses darker imagery. Romeo associates Juliet with light saying "[she] is the sun” (II. ii. 2) Then he furthers the comparison simply by correlating Juliet with a dazzling gem if he states, " she hangs upon the cheek of night as well as As a wealthy jewel within an Ethiop's ear” (I. sixth is v. 44-45) Juliet, a stunning luminescent treasure, is opposed to the darkness from the Ethiopian skin tone. Contrastingly, Montague articulates his apprehension concerning Romeo's current actions to Benvolio outlining that Romeo " shuts up his windows, a lock fair sunlight out, / And makes himself an unnatural night. ” (I. my spouse and i. 130-131) These examples of mild and darker imagery make reference to Romeo's fall into major depression after Rosaline's announcement to be chaste. Not able to cope with the realization that he would not marry his love, this individual starts to deny society, represented as mild, and begins to draw into a deep privacy, signified as his personal night.
